We meet every Monday (except Bank Holidays or unless notified) from 10.30am - 12.30pm at Wanstead Youth Centre, Elmcroft Avenue, Wanstead, London E11 2DB
The Playgroup is part of the Forest Twins and Triplets Club and is a 'members only' club. Fees are listed below and it is really easy to join. Simply come to the Playgroup, the first session is free, and if you like us you can join on your return.
The sessions are semi-structured in a way to allow free play, however, with a mixture of activities and a variety of play to stimulate as the children develop. We aim to cater for all ages from babies through to preschoolers. We create small play areas set out specifically to allow the child's imagination to lead their play, for example, kitchen and food area, cars and garage or train set, a dressing up area, cause and effect and a music mat and of course ride-on's. We also have pop-up tents and tunnels, an arts and crafts table and a reading corner. Refreshments are also available and are included in the price. Squash is offered for the children however bring your own beakers and snacks. At 11.45am we pack everything away and finish with a sing song and play the musical instruments. This is a favourite with all the children whatever their age.
Our sessions are not facilitated and therefore it goes without saying that children are the sole responsibility of their parents/carers.
We have a special area for the babies which is sectioned off from the main play area and bouncy seats or 'bumbo'- type seats are available, as well as soft mats and large cushions for comfort. All our new mums are well looked after and help is often on hand from the 'older' mums who are generally all too happy to cuddle a baby if it helps!
The Playgroup is a place where carers and parents of multiples can make friends, relax (a little!), discuss and exchange aspects of raising twins and triplets, and support each other. Everyone attending has at least two children to care for and we pride ourselves on our unique atmosphere where mutual responsibility for all areas and aspects of the Playgroup is taken. If you see a child in trouble or about to put themselves into a dangerous situation please act accordingly.
Toddlers find it difficult to share and take turns, as they are so young. If squabbles arise it helps if you distract the children with another toy or activity. Toddlers, and babies, can sometimes be upset by so many new faces or tired by the unaccustomed noise. If you find your children start to get upset, it is not because they do not like the playgroup it is probably because they are totally overwhelmed by it all. Try staying for just a short time to begin with. Although the Playgroup is open from 10.30am - 12.30pm many members do not stay the whole session or arrive later in the session depending on routine. Please make sure you sign out from the youth centre, in case there is a fire alarm, we will not be searching the premises.
The Group is insured through the Pre-School Learning Alliance of which we are a member. Parents and carers are ultimately responsible for their own children and must supervise them at all times. The Forest Twins and Triplets Club is also a member of TAMBA.
